What is an oil finder?

Oil finders are people who have not only found oil or gas but who seem to have a nose for it and feel it’s present.

Anyone wishing to become an oil finder should have especial characters and useful.

·         Get a good education, work with an oil finder mentor, study oil and gas field case histories, and use every scrap of information.

·         Love the excitement of the oil industry.

·         Study what oil finders have written. 4. Know that finding oil requires endless effort.

·          Associate with an oil-finder, if possible

·          Educate yourself widely in geology, geophysics, and engineering.

·         Work in several different basins of varied stratigraphy, structure, etc.

·           Learn the petroleum history of your area. Know what people were thinking when wells were drilled.

·         Input every scrap of information you can find, continually.

What do you think about finder petroleum skills?

It is much more a learned skill than a natural talent. However, a good oil finder must be an optimist. He has to believe that he can find prospects that others overlook in order to be effective.

Most do not want to be oil finders, or at most it is a secondary objective. Also, most explorationists think they already know how to do it—they don’t!

A skilled practitioner employs controlled, creative imagination. The control consists of utilizing all geological and geophysical data available. Creative imagination involves the application of a broad academic and experience background. I will be grateful for luck but to depend on it is no better than your chances of hitting a moving target with a dart in a high wind

What is period of time you need to be good oil finder?

At least five or more years’ experience. Many oil finder said they are most productive now, indicating they feel experience is critical.

What has motivated oil finder in their career, and what do you think are the most important motivating factors in general?

The excitement of the hunt; money is nice, but it isn’t the real motivator.

I believe motivation and the best scientific oil finders come from a basic love, understanding, and appreciation of their science, as well as the exploration business, i.e., playing the game for the game’s sake

How did you learn to find oil? Did someone teach you, or were you largely self-taught?

Although earlier the respondents said mentors were very important, I believe it were self-taught.

BP to acquire additional interest in the West Nile Delta project

The acquisition will bring BP’s working interest in both concessions of the West Nile Delta project to 82.75 per cent. 

The West Nile Delta project agreement, concluded in March 2015, involves the development of 5 trillion cubic feet of gas resources and 55 million barrels of condensates. Production from WND is expected to be around 1.2 billion cubic feet a day (bcf/d), equivalent to about 25 per cent of Egypt’s current gas production. All the produced gas will be fed into the country’s national gas grid. Production is expected to start in 2017.

Landmark and CGG have announced a geosciences technology collaboration

The collaboration will allow shared customers to seamlessly access best-in-class interpretation and reservoir characterization technologies and geoscience data from both companies, using the industry’s first E&P enterprise class platform; Landmark’s DecisionSpace. A series of unique workflows enabled by the platform will be delivered through connectivity of geoscience applications and data.

As the E&P industry remains challenged to do more with less in the current economic climate, increased efficiencies are derived by better work processes and data. The technology collaboration will significantly enhance existing unconventional and 4D workflows by providing full interoperability of combined capabilities, across the complete lifecycle of the reservoir. This will provide immediate potential to save costs and improve outcomes for our joint customers.

Additionally, Landmark and CGG will engage with customers to develop a new class of E&P workflows to meet existing and emerging industry challenges. These next generation software suites will support improved prospect generation, well location and path definition, completion design, development planning and reservoir management.
